my beautiful 135
I have a 1976 Oday 22 that I singlehand exclusively. I have stuck with hank-on jibs because I have heard too much about performance loss (bad enough to begin with on a 22!) but also because I'm too cheap to buy a roller furler. Because I singlehand, I was concerned that a 150 would be too much to handle if the breeze came up rapidly (as it does around these parts) so I decided to buy a 135. After looking around a lot, I ordered the 135 and a main from Lee Sails. They were fabulous in the customer service department, substantially cheaper than other sources, gave me all the options I asked for, delivered at exactly the time promised, and the sails are beautifully built. The 135 is the perfect size for me. It tacks across easily without getting hung up in the shrouds, adds plenty of power for the typical breezes in my area, and is easier to see around than a big deck-sweeper would be. I had concerns about an off-site sailmaker that hadn't measured the boat. I was afraid the luff or foot would be too long/short, that the setback of the tack cringles would be off, the boom would sag, etc. etc. Lee sails nailed it. It was one of the most satisfying purchases I have ever made!
