How do I remove the discoloration on my helm seat from seagull poop?

Thanks in advance.

Stains on the non-skid textured surface are hard to get out. I would try bleach or some liquid abbrasive compound with a high speed cloth buffer.

Assuming you are speaking about fiberglass/gelcoat, I would suggest Totally Awesome ($1 a bottle at the Dollar store) or Simple Green.

If that does not work, then you can move up to Oxalic Acid, Soft Scrub etc.

I find Simple Green to be greasy and leave a slimy residue. Purple Power works really well.

I use Crud Cutter. Seems to work well on bird stains and the black stains from port lights. Also use on cockpit cushions.

Clorox now makes a general purpose spry cleaner called "Clean up". I used it on all the tough stains in my cockpit. It really worked well on the seat cushions too. When I rinsed with fresh water I could see all the ground-in dirt just wash away.

I use Joy dish soap for the common dirt. I like it because it's bio degradable. Put a couple ounces in a bucket, fill with water, and then scrub away.

I have been told that bleach products can yellow the gelcoat. Try putting a piece of bird netting in your spreaders and on the boom and halyards when you're not around to keep varmints away.

I bought some West Marine Bird and Spider Poop remover, and it worked very well, but a little pricey. My common sense First Mate used baking soda and a damp wash cloth, and got the same results for just pennies. We'll be keeping the baking soda on board from now on. Also, the WM spider preventative spray works pretty well at keeping the wee beasties at bay.

I use sudsy amonia I get from Publix. Any one will have it. Mix it 75% amonia and 25% water. The stuff kiicks butt. I scrubbed some serious pelican poop yesterday!
