I did a great job (if I say so myself) of filling some minor hull damage (well above the water line) with some West System epoxy. Now, however, I just read that you can't put gelcoat over epoxy. How do I finish this repair? Any suggestions.

That one has always puzzled me too. I would email someone at West System and get some info on it. When you get the info, let us know.

According to West Systems, gel coat can be applied over epoxy.

Most use Urethane paints, and in an older boat one part most likely would be fine.

You mean paints like Awl Grip? You would have to do the whole deck or the whole hull with it though, Right? Some day, I'm going to have to do something to my boat. My hull and deck have battle scars up the ying yang. You name it, and my boat has hit it. Not only that but I've removed some deck hardware through the years and filled the holes where the bolts were. It's almost impossible to match it with Gelcoat and have it look good especially on the non skid. That's another thing too. I would need to grind out the non skid and use a silica sand mixed into the Awl Grip. Maybe some day when I come into some money which isn't likely to happen.
