During the first year waranty I had about 15 cracks in the gelcoat repaired. They mostly just showed up one day - not the result of any damage inflicted. They seemed to come on the side of the boat that got the most sun ie when I reversed the mooring, they appeared on that side. Everything was fine until the weather warmed up and now I am getting some cracks (3) - again on the side that gets the most sun. I am not talking about stress cracks, they are pits and protrusians. When will this stop and what is the cause? Should Hunter be responsible?

Gel Coat Voids

If they are voids,ie spaces under the gelcoat on top of f/glass then its a manufactureing problem. The glass mat was not rolled down properly onto the gelcoat in the mould. They generally occur in corners where it is more difficult to press the mat in. They can however be anywhere. I had many on my boat H41 '04. The dealer has fixed most of them, I'm just haveing a bit of difficulty in getting them to finnish the job off. Spider cracks they sometimes will do and sometimes won't, I think it depends on the severity of the cracking. Thats my experience. So try the dealer first and then go to Hunter if not satisfied. It is a manufacturing defect. You probably need

the hull sanded and recoated. Get Hunter to do it now, while there is no question about warranty. Cracks will continue to appear until it's sanded down and done right. Sometimes the gelcoat just doesn't go on right. Temperature, humididty, dust, air in the first layer of mat, bad batch of gel coat or resin, bad wax job on the mould..... Who knows? It happens with cars, too. I know of a Mercedes that was repainted at company expense when it was three years old. Tell both Hunter and your dealer that you want the hull done. Tell them that you posted here and folks all said Hunter is really good about warranty work and they'll treat you right. Tell them that you will be really happy to post here and sing their praises when your hull is fixed.
