Gearbox: glaze cone?

In my case, a PO had used ATF fluid instead of the factory spec same oil as used in the engine!
I pulled mine out and will be rebuilding it over the winter.

GT, thanks. For past 2 years when ever I put gears to forward or reverse the first time, I get grinding noise. Didn't know what causes it. Assume its barnacle on shaft and cutlass bearing. It goes away after coupling minutes in gears and fine for rest of the day.
wonder if that's the start of glazing problem.
