gasoline portable and marine gensets: difference?

So what's the difference between a simple gasoline powered generator(their "super quiet" model) and a marine genset(Panda, Westerbrake, etc)? The price is the obvious difference, yet for someone who will live on the hook for months at a time, what's the best choice? Warmest regards.

Gas vs. Diesel

Scottie, if you are comparing gasoline vs. diesel, especially for livaboard, I would definitely go with diesel no matter what the cost or noise. Gasoline scares the heck out of me. Diesel is much safer.What do others out there have to say?RolandFraulein II

generator difference

One major difference is safety! gas gen set produce deadly carbon monoxide and need major ventalation. diesel does not pose the carbon monoxide problem that gas does but still needs ventalation. Other difference are water vs. air cooling,kw output vs. size and fuel storage and running time. Convience becomes a major issue for a long term set up.Also portables will need to be outside exposed to the elements etc.If money were no object I would go with the bigger marine gen set vs the portable, however money is considerable different,if you would decide to go portable please think and rethink all the safety issue (i.e. filling and storage of fuel on the boat)
