Has anyone installed a racor gas/water separator in a Catalina 30. there isn't much room under the galley cabinet especially if i ever want to drain it or change the filter. thanks

Fuel filter
My Dahl fuel filter is mounted on my 83 Cat 30 on the port side of the engine compartment just under where you sit. It's near the engine alternator. It's a big filter which removes impurities and has a bowl on the bottom where water can accumulate and be drained. The fuel(diesel)comes from the tank and then to this primary filter before it goes to the engine fuel filter. It is tight but I can change the filter and gasket without much of a problem.

I have a Racor filter on my 1989 Cat30, mounted exactly the way John describes. No problems with filter and gasket changing either. From previous posts on this subject some time ago I understand this is pretty much the standard way of doing this on a Cat30.
