I have a Garmin 182C with a sonar GSD 20 and it started to flash the depth as though its not seeing the bottom and then would completely stop so I checked the transducer for growth and found it clean then I took both the sounder and chart plotter to a friends boat who has the same set up and all worked well so it must be a wiring problem between the sounder and the transducer or the transducer. I took the connector end and cut away the rubber to expose the solder connections to check for continuity and all is well, the cable is still secure throughout the bilge area from the day of installation a couple of years ago.*o I’ve ordered a new transducer so I can check the system before I haul out for the winter but has any one ever heard of a transducer going bad? BTW I also have a temperature sensor on this transducer and it works fine

Transducer

I got a new 498c last fall, and the brand new transducer was bad, right out of the box. It would read 30' when in less than 10', sometimes wouldn't read at all, and sometimes when reading 30', would continue to read 30' when pulled from the water. I would suspect you got a bad transducer.

I have the 185 sounder and have noticed that if

my battery is low I will get false shallow water alarms of 5 ft in 60ft of water. When the battery is freshly charged it works just fine. Frank
