I just set the distance, and then you go into "alarms " or "sounds" and you can turn the check mark on and off. when you turn it on, it takes the fix right there.

Distance Issue

I know how to set the alarm in the instrument but here is the problem. You are in 30' of water. Three to one so I have out 90' of chain and rope. 30' deep and 60' to the set point. During the night I am going to swing in a cicle that will be 120' in diameter. That means I have to put into the GPS alarm distance 120' - 130'. That is a problem!!! This allow me to drag my anchor 120'-130' in one direction before the alarm goes off. Is there a way to offset the GPS anchor alarm to compensate for the fact that you are 60' from the anchor set point? With every thing going on, it is hard to set the Anchor alarm at the time of you are dropping the anchor.

Distance not an issue

Get the boat over the anchor, set the GPS, and give yourself a little room. If you have 60' of rode out and are sure you are fairly close to over the anchor, set it for 80', then you should be covered in any direction.

They've been making anchor alarms since

Loran was invented. There's nothing more comforting than learning how to actually SET an anchor. If it's questionable and you have ANY concerns, then an anchor watch, by REAL human beings, becomes a necessity. Please, don't depend on the GPS to wake you up. One of the GPS's best feature is an alarm clock. Set it for every 15 minutes...

This MIGHT help

We all know that a minute of latitude is 1 nm (6080 ft) That means that a second of latitude is 101 ft Soooooo If you know your present GPS lat and long just make a waypoint where you think your anchor is and set the alarm off the waypoint. Admittedly this is cumbersum and I find it easier to think ahead a bit when coming up to the anchor site. I set up the GPS so all the wife has to do is hit "that button right there dear" when I tell you to. I go forward and drop the anchor and she hits the button. Too easy!
