I have checked the Garmin site, but have not figured out the answer to this question. Will the "G" chart chip that fits in a Garmin 210 also fit in a Garmin 182? Thanks in advance for the info. Fair winds Dave

I'd say no

Both units are discontinued. The 182 takes the regular Bluechart cards while the 210 takes the discontinued G cards.

Different size

Just a quick follow-up. I talked to Garmin today and they advised that the Garmin G chart Navonics offshore chip is a different size that the one that goes in my Garmin 182. Thanks to those who responded. fair winds Dave

Lowrancee

That's why I bought Lowrance, and Eagle. Same chips for all their hand held and mounted chart plotters/GPS units. One chip, $99.00 has all the NOAA charts on it. And fits all my units. Love the H2Oc hand held. Has a color screen, and ties into my DCS on my VHF and my auto pilot. Love my black and white Eagle, 5" screen, works great, have that one on my power boat, and a 7" Lowrance color chart plotter on my Bristol 30.

The trouble with Garmin charts

Is that they periodically change their chart formats and if you want to update or upgrade your charts, you have to buy new equipment as well as new charts. A very spendy propsition. Navionics and C-Map formats are more upward and backward compatible with hardware. You do not need to upgrade your hardware as often and software updates are sometimes available for newer charts to be used on older hardware. Lowrance charts are available on CD and can be updated as well. - A happy Navionics user

Dan, I had the same problem in that my unit was discontinued and so were the chart chips. Fortunetly a local shop had one in stock( they were stuck w/ them to), and were glad to sell me one cheap. I think ii paid 50 bucks for an entire Lake MI chart. Don't know if they have any more but it is worth a shot.phone # 231-726-5600. I'm sure they have a web site but don't know the URL. Tell them jack page sent ya!! Hope this helps. Pray for wind, Lugeman

Chips

Hi Lugeman; Thanks for the info. I have the chips for Lakes Michigan and Huron, including North Channel. My questions arose out of a Ebay auction I saw, that a guy had chips for his G21O for the straits of Machinaw and another for Northern Lake Huron for only $9 each. Did not really need them, but like most, can't pass up a deal. Unfortunately, Garmin said they are a different size from my G182 Thanks again for the reponse. fair winds Dave

The 182...

...takes the Blue Chart chips. Unfortunately, not too cheap except on eBay. Try there!
