We're looking to buy Garmin G2 cards for our Garmin 3210 plotter. The 3000 series plotters use the proprietary Garmin Data Cards. We want Explorer Charts for the Bahamas on these cards.

I talked to Garmin and they say the US040R card of the entire east coast USA & Bahamas has data matching the Explorer chart data. But they also sell a Southern Bahamas card US029R that is actually labeled Explorer Charts data. But there is no Garmin Data Card available for the Northern Bahamas.

If the east coast Garmin card has all the Bahamas, why do I need the Southern Bahamas card also?

Looking to confirm that the US040R Garmin Card has the Explorer Charts data? If the US040R card is not Explorer Charts, how do I get Explorer charts for the Northern Bahamas on a Garmin Data Card?

Sent a note to Explorer with no reply.

It depends upon how far south you want to go in the Bahama's. If you stay in the Abaco's or Exuma's you will be fine. However, if you want to travel further south (ie: Jimmento's, Long Island, Ackins, Turks & Caico's) you will need the Southern Bahama's Chip. We ran into this problem last winter when we went to Long Island and Duncan Town in the Jimmento's.
Concerning your second question: Yes, the garmin charts are based on the Explorer Charts and show the Explorer recommended routes.

According to Garmin, the US040R card includes ALL of the Bahamas, T & C, Cuba, DR & Puerto Rico. So I shouldn't need the S Bahamas card if this card is Exploerer.

Thanks

The Explorer charts are good books to have as a back up anyway. They list waypoints, information about where you are going and the cays, etc. Nice to have paper and not GPS alone.

explorer chart books are on order, never planned on going anywhere with out paper charts.

Did hear back from explorer. they tell me all garmin charts of bahamas contain explorer data

seems confusing to have a big chart of all the bahamas and then another chart of the S bahamas, both at the same price

i believe they have the S Bahama's chip for older Garmin units like my 276C, where the original chip for SE Florida and the Bahama's did not include the southern bahama's. I know, because myself and two other cruisers going to the Jimmento's had to purchase the additional chip. I have since pruchased a Garmin 541 that includes all of the bahama's.

I have a Florida & Bahamas data card i am trying to unload. I used it in a Garmin 2206 chartplotter. It looks like a cartridge type not SD or Micro-SD I paid $300 US for it-make an offer. Don't know wether one is breaking the forums rules on this
