Maybe it's me, but the Garmin site seems very confusing in the manner they present their information.

I have a Garmin GPSMap 521s with the card slot. I've searched archives as well as the Garmin site and can't seem to find the answer I'm seeking.

What is the difference between the Bluechart G2 vision card, and the G2 card, [without the vision part]?

Will either work in the same unit? Is it just a difference in available features?

I'm a big believer in paper charts, but it's sure nice to glance up and see exactly where you are.

thanks,
robj

The Vision is popular with fishermen down here because of the "fish eye" view. Give you info on the bottoms, structure where fish might be hiding.

I guess with sailing, it would help with bottom features as well.

I was hoping that was the answer, thanks.

I bought the G2 Vision for the Chesapeake and although the chart is fine, as stated in one of the posts referenced;
"I don't find the satellite imagery and aerial photos to be that helpful. I was dissapointed to find they are quite low resolution and lack detail".

I was also a little disappointed as the reality of what the the "Vision" card would do did not live up to the representations. [duh, shoulda known]

I'm now looking to add the Keys and was hoping to spend a little less money.

Maybe a dumb question, in looking at the g2 charts [not g2 Vision] to cover the Keys I found; "HUS040R - US East g2", which is the entire east coast of the US out to Cuba for $160 on the Garmin site.
Considering the area it covers, will that zoom in to the same level as the G2 Vision?

Again, maybe a dumb question and I can't see what use it would be if it did not but I wanted to ask before opening my wallet.

I didn't see where these questions are addressed on the Garmin site.

Thanks Again,
robj

I'm using the G2 Vision card as a chart and chart plotter, but their usefulness as far as satellite imagery and aerial photos and the "3d view" is not as helpful as they were presented.
The 3d looks nothing like Garmin's representations, and the imagery is quite grainy when zoomed in.
I guess I was expecting a little more for the price difference between the g2 vision cards and what I preceve the g2 cards, [for less than 1/2 the price] will do.

Having used a "Vision" card, if the chart capibilities of the g2 card are the same, I'm not sure the Vision card is worth twice the price of the g2, at least for my use.

From what I've read, it seems many of the cards offered on Ebay at a discount are "older" versions.

The g2 visions strong point is it's route to function . I sell them every other day for captains that want to follow a path to their destination without plotting a course
