Hi There,
I would be interested to hear from any Hunter owners who have installed a Galvanic Isolator on their yacht.
Looking for recommendations, particularly from Hunter, on type, size and where to install.
Thanks and Regards,
Wedgie

This such a "hot" issue. As I found out in another thread, these devices are great as long as there are not many switching power supplies around feeding voltages on to the ground system at frequencies other than 60cycle. These extraneous voltages can actually switch the isolator on and prevent it from doing its job. Not to say they don't work but....I am becoming convinced that the only 2 true means of isolation are 1, isolation transformers and 2 don't plug in.

I replaced my factory-installed isolation transformer with a galvanic isolator to eliminate the "hum" that disturbed my wife's sleep shortly after I purchased the boat over 2 years ago. It is located in the aft cabin behind a panel. My neighbor did the same on his 2004 Hunter 36. No problems to report.

Hi Stephen, Thanks for the info but could you elaborate a little please.
What brand and type of isolator did you install ?
Are there different size isolators for different type and size of boat ?
If so how did you know you had chosen the correct one?
Do you know where I can source the information to ensure I am installing the correct isolator ?
There seem to be a huge range of isolators available on the net at varying prices. Hard to know which one is the right one.
As you can tell, my knowledge is very limited in this area, so any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.
Cheers, Wedgie

Next time I go down to the boat I will get the manufacturer and model number. In the meantime you might check with a local marine electrician.
