Galvanic action

I am replacing the 'zinc' on my shaft nearly every month. I know this is caused by galvanic action. When I spoke with the diver about it he said it appears to be happening to the Beneteau's in the marina more often than other boats. I have checked the zincs, any they are in need of replacement, so the diver is doing the right thing. Any ideas. Is it just coincidence, or is there something in the design.

It may be u have stray voltage from the marina electric/an ajacent boat/ or your boat is not properly grounded or the dock power is leaking into the water....

Zincs

Stan, When I was in Charleston I only had to change my zinc 1 time in the year. I have been down in Florida and have only needed to change once. It must be the boats near you. Try K dock you might have better success...

There must be an electrical leak from one of the boats near you in the marina. We had a similar problem on our cove, and I was told that it was one of the boats in the cove leaking DC current, but which found its way to ground through the AC ground wire when my boat is plugged in. You can install a galvanic isolator which is fairly expensive, but I am told will completely protect your boat. We decided to start using the large zinc "fish" which you dangle over the side and attach with an allegator clip to a ground on the boat. It just provides additional protection to those on the shaft. You want to be sure and check the zinc in your heat exchanger as well as I find they are consumed even faster than the shaft zincs.
