Can anyone give me a ball park of how much gas a merc 9.9 outboard uses at 3/4 throttle. I am going down the Intracostal from Corpus and if the winds are from the South I could be doing a lot of motoring. Seems like it should be common knowledge but hard to get an answer. Thanks.

2 stroke or 4 cycle?

That can depend on type of engine. 2 stoke burn much more gas than 4 cycle. I have a 2 stroke Yamaha 8 hp. I average 5 hours on 3 gallons. That is running at full throtle. It is tital water with chop and waves. Hope this helps. Dave

Too many variables. Figure on one gph and then observe consumption as you travel.

9.9 Johnson == 1 gph

I have a '90 johnson 9.9 sailmaster 2 stroke on my 25.5, and at 3/4 throttle I burn 1 gal per hour. Got to try this out on a 6hr motor a couple of years ago. But I would carry a spare tank or something if you are even a slight bit concerned about fuel on your trip. Portable 4 gal tank, hose, coupling, etc. probably will run less than $50, so its cheap peace of mind. Enjoy your trip!
