The following rules-of-thumb are based upon a number of assumptions, so should only be considered estimating approximations. Refer to your individual engine manual for specific advice. Both gasoline and diesel engines use about 0.6 pound of fuel per horsepower used per hour. Diesel weights about 7.1 pounds per gallon, whereas Gasoline weighs about 6.1 pounds per gallon. Hence: Diesel Engines consume about 0.0845 (0.6 / 7.1) gallons per Horse Power per hour, at Wide Open Throttle. Gasoline engines consume about 0.0984 gal per H.P. per Hr. Hence, your 30 H.P. diesel could be expected to use about 2.535 Gallons per Hour at WOT. Since you’ll likely cruise at about 70% throttle, your actual cruising consumption could be estimated at about (0.70 x 0.0845 x 30) 1.775 Gallons per hour.

GPH for new H33

JJ, After more than 100 hours on my 2004 H33, also about 11,000lb, I average about 0.75 gph at 3,000 rpm. This is a Yanmar 29 hp engine. If I push it above 3000 rpm, it goes to 1 gph. Michael
