Galley table use

I have a 1995 Hunter 26. The galley table can be raised and rotated 180 degree on the mast support. It looks like it can be made into a great bunk if it would go down to the level of the seats. Un fortunately, the cone under the table will not let the table go all the way down to the seat level. Is ther a way to get it to go all the way down?

making something do what it is not supposed to

Hey Malcolm, I have a 94 h26 purchased last year. I am no expert however It seems like this could be done, but the cone would need to be removed. I don't know if the table would be stable without it unless reinforced. In addition, you would need to rig the table so that it could be raised for dinning (probably not too difficult). I have been told not to do this in the past when I asked the dealer. In the fixed keel version you can lower the table, cone and all because it does not have the raised centerboard housing. You should list this question in the "small boat" forum. alan

Malcolm & Alan

I am getting ready to do just what you are thinking about. Could either or both of you contact me at my e-mail and we could address this modification and its planing together. Alan is right that we should do this in the small boat forum. Thanks Ray. E-mail, rebaray@theofficenet.com

Galley seat cushions

Why go to all this trouble when the seat cushion that fits in the curve of the galley seat also fits on top of the table when its not extended out and serves the purpose of extending the V-berth? You could also put some more seat cushions to cover the table completely and have a party.

thought about this too

My husband and I are waiting for our boat to be delivered (new) in May. He also remembered w/ a fixed keel, table went down but when he contacted Hunter about this, they said owners had a lot of trouble getting table back up to eating level again. Apparently table dropped into a groove on seats but there wasn't enough support to raise table once it was down and snug. We were wondering what to do b/c would like wider bunks. I think we will attempt to make wooden planks (set up much like Hatch ) to fit into the grooves (which still exist even on new model) that are on the seats. We will put velcro/brackets/something to keep them together and when not in use put them under seat cushions- so we will make them not wider than seats or even under cushions in v-berth.. This is my idea- does it have any merit? I'll keep checking this thread for more input- something should work. regards, JOyce

Good tip Joyce.

Knowing that this was done on the different keel models helps. Adding "drop down handles" in the table top would allow for easy lifting of the table. To support and lock the table in the fully raised position after the modification for the lower bunk is fairly straight forward. By doing this it will allow the grandkids to sleep in the v-berth (their pirate fort), and their parents on the lower bunk. (also reducing the number of additional grandkids) I will be trying this change over in the next week and will respond in the "small boat section" Ray

good luck

I remember when I moved to Merrick my neighbors were replacing or adding to thier driveways by hand! They asked me if I wanted to do it also. When it came time to pour, level and trowel we did mine last. It came out the best because we had the benefit of learning by trial and error. Let us know :>)!

hey Alan

How are you doing?? Don't really think we will be doing a lot of "enhancing" this summer (at least if I have much to say about it- which in all honesty, I don't) - but it looks like a cool project. Bob is counting the days till May. He will call you- now starts tax season so he will be a little stressed.. I'm glad he has this to look forward to AFTER tax season.. regards, your neighbor, Joyce P.S. what I mean is that I hope we just enjoy the new boat as it is before he starts fooling around with it.
