Galley sink drain

Does anyone have any suggestions or input about the galley sink drainage problems for the ODay 272. My 1986 has a thru hull "gravity" drain and it doesn't work worth a darn. This weekend, dirty water from dinner dishes was still in the sink Sunday morning. Is this typical? Do I have a clog in the line? Do I need to install a pump to evacuate the sink? Thanks, BB

My 272

Had the same problem till I took a hose and just blasted the water through it. Cleaned it right up. Good luck Jeff

Ditto what Jeff said

I had a slow, then completely stopped drain. Took it apart over the winter, thinking perhaps the problem was in the through-hull. It was in the line just above the seacock. Looked like my kitchen drain after I try to run too much through the disposal too quickly. Disassembly, reaming out, then flushing with hot soapy water cleaned it out. It now runs fine. I keep a fine mesh strainer in the sink drain, to catch any bits and toss them overboard rather than run them down the drain.

Thanks!

Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like I just need to do a little "non-Drano" pipe cleaning. That'll be a nice little project for the long weekend. Fair winds and happy sailing!! BB

I always wondered what that solid #8 coated

... wire with a little loop handle was about 3 ft. long ... until that sink pluged up the first time. Since it is a straight run right out the hull all you have to do is poke it down a few times to clear anything. It sits right next to the spare tiller ... at least on "Seven" Vic "Seven"
