My 1994 C30 has a foot operated pump in the aft bulkhead of the galley. It is mentioned briefly in the book that came with the boat as either a galley sink drain or an optional salt water sink pump. When I step on it I can hear water sloshing but I don't know where it's input is or where it pumps to. I'm concerned because I can't figure out how to winterize it. Any ideas what it is and how it works?

Take out drawers and see where hoses run. Probably from bottom of ice box to bilge. Put it dry and you'er done.

The suggestion to get your head into the space where the pump is, and to trace the hoses from where they come from and where they go, is very reasonable.

Regardless of what the OEM manual says, who knows what the POs may have done.

The whale gusher foot operated pump is usually for pumping out of the icebox to the bilge, but there were a few options & one of them was for a sea water pump to wash dishes with, etc. You should be able to view the line pipe the pump is atached via opening the lower cabinet door under the sink. Use a flashlight for better visibility. It will either run aft to the ice box, or to a thru hull for raw water. Turn off the thru hull valve, if there is one & pump the line dry. After 20 years these pumps usually wear out as the bellow tears. Mine was already removed from my galley by a P.O. The pumps are still made by Whale Co. in a little town where I am from in Bangor, Northern Ireland. You can look them up online for U.S. distributors of you need to ever replace it.

I have a '93 - #6220 --- it pumps from the bottom of the fridge to the outboard sink..... a way to drain melt water from the fridge.

And where does your sink drain into? The Bilge? or to a grey water holding tank or overboard via a thru-hull fitting?

Thanks

Drazlou, on my Mark III the drain from the icebox/fridge originally went through the foot pump to the galley sink drain. It was a source of bad odors as water tended to sit in the line. I eliminated the foot pump and let the fridge drain into the bilge.
