Just in case you were out sailing this past weekend and didn't check the HOW forums, here is a link to the photo forum and my galley faucet replacement. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty 1981 H33, Rochester, NY

Nice work Ken.

Your galley looks new, good job. But you guys have got to quit generating new projects. When can we sail?

Me Too!

I just rebuilt the faucet on my h25. Like you, I took the sink out to give me room to work. Thanks to your courage, I can now admit that I could only get 3 of the 4 L brackets back on. Thanks for helping me to get that off my chest! (I bet Skipper has a way to get all four back on.)

I also pulled my Galley faucet off this weekend.

I replaced my hot water heater on Saturday, and when I was done and testing all my connections, the Galley faucet began leaking. I also had to pull the sink out in orger to get the faucet out. I have a new faucet on order, which should hopefully arrive in a coupld of days and I will install it and the sink. PS. My sink came right our. The was only one corner where the the caucking (spell incorrectly) was holding the sink down.

Week of Faucets?

I pulled the sink and original faucet from my 33 over the (very, very cold) winter in anticipation of relaminatingthe galley counter top to get rid of the less than attractive yellowish laminate. The faucet, due to the way Hunter, or the individual craftsman chose to install it, was a bear to get out. After trying two other faucets that wouldn't work for reasons having to do with reach and mounting configuration (thank goodness for Home Depot's gemerous return policy!)I ended up with a Delta wide base (3 hole style) single lever with separate spray. $64.00 Quick note, the original on my boat was a simple laundry room slop sink faucet, about $24.00 off the shelf at Home Depot. I'm sure I'll post pictures just as soon as I get all the others posted -- I'm, still working on that. The boat was in the water all winter and still hasn't been out for the first sail of the season, but I think this weekend will be it!!

Perfect single lever faucet

for galley. Fits easily in galley sink space.

Perfect Ron?

Not so sure. Wouldn't you prefer the tall neck like Ken's? For the big pots and the bucket? But I guess they don't make a single-handle faucet like that. I need to be doing this soon.

Single or double handle

It seems like a single handle faucet is more practical for a boat. Why do most manufacturers use two handle faucets? Cost? Markdb

Prone to failure?

My limited experience in maintaining my home plumbing shows me that the single action faucets need repairs more quickly than the two handle faucets. By repair I mean leaking around the handle, especially if you are pushing the handle a bit on the hard side. I have switched all of my faucets at home to American Standard 2-handle faucets, and love them. The new ceramic disc used in the faucet is very smooth and less prone to failure. The faucet I used on Liberty was also an American Standard faucet, bought from Home Depot. I like it, but everybody will have their own opinion on types and brands. I would think that any new faucet should give you many years of service without maintenance. I do like the high type as I installed, giving me much more room to wash dishes, pots, and pans in the small galley sink. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty
