Galley faucet hand pump

The little hand pump handle on the galley sink faucet kind of flops back and forth, doesn't feel like there's any resistance, and I get no water. The fresh water tank is full. Do these things have to be primed? If so, how is that done? Or any other easy to try things before I try to repair or replace?

As far as PO could remember it has never been used.

If it has never been used, the seal between the piston and barrel is probably shot. There is a ball check valve in the lower, removable piece of the barrel. You can usually remove the hose then unscrew the bottom nipple to clean the check valve and lube the piston. It may be easier to pull the pump off the shelf to work on it. To lube the piston seal, a very thin coat of food grade grease like SuperLube http://www.amazon.com/Synthetic-Gre...70&sr=8-1&keywords=superlube+synthetic+grease

It may be that the internal arm or pin is broken, in which case, replacing with new as 25yearslater suggests is the best answer..

I have one with the same problem. Until I decide to spend the $40 on a replacement, I simply put suction on the spout while rocking the handle. It primes and pumps.
