Hi everyone
long time since I posted guess that means we havnt had many problems
(dismasting aside last year)
My first mate, and as she calls herself the galley slut wants to replace the benchtops in the galley of our B393. She who must be obeyed wants a corian overlay I would be happy with just a new laminate top over the old one.
anyone done this?
Removing the original tops looks to be a huge task
Can the sink be moved up a little and if I take it out, does it have a lip I could put over the new top otherwise I will need to have a SS strip made to cover the gap cos she doesn't want the same pvc glued edgebanding which has failed several times
thanks

You are right, this has the potential to be a huge job - any chance you could just get a new wife? ;)

I was contemplating this recently and decided that a workable solution would be a solid-body material like corian (1/2" or so) bonded to the existing surface. The 411 is very similar to your boat, but my sink is hung under the countertop, so I would have to remove it, enlarge the cutout so that the sink could be raised to attach to the new counter material. Lots of prep work here with measurements and pattern cutting. If you proceed, I would like to see how you did the work. Good luck.

Rustoleum makes a counter top refinishing kit that results in a "granite" or corian style finish. It is painted in place, the "crystals" are scattered across, and then the sealant is applied. I tried it on a test patch, and liked the results, so at the end of this summer, it is going on the boat.
