Furling Tension

I'm into my first sailing season and my roller furling, or forestay, seems to be a little sloppy. I recently purchased a Loose Gauge but I cannot figure out how to use it on the roller furling. Does any one know how to properly tension a roller furling or how to use a Loose gauge on one?

The gentleman who sold me the boat taught me to attach the furling to the deck plate after I raise the mast with a ratchet strap. according to him, there is no need to set or adjust the tension after that. Maybe I'm out to lunch but I'd like to confirm or negate my 'too sloppy' fears.

What brand furler? My Harken manual says to make it pretty tight, but I don't have a Loos and can't see how you'd use it when there's a foil covering the stay.

The forestay adjustment is used to set rake. Its tension is set when you set the shroud tension. This link should help:
