I am interested in possible solutions to reducing or eliminating the banging caused by the inner extrusion against the inside of the mast, in furling systems when the sail is removed. By the way, it's not why I named my boat Water Racket!
I have been waiting days for someone to respond to this thread--no luckI have a Morgan 38 cc as well. Here on Long Island the boat is on the hard for 5 or 6 months. This is my second season with the boat. When she is on the hard I always take the sails down and send them out to be cleaned and repaired. Like you said the exstrusion inside the mast bangs very loudly. No matter how tight the haylard is it will still bang. The only solution that I can see is get an old jib sail on the cheap and roller furl it into the mast. It would have to be tall enough to roll above the spreaders because that is where the banging occures. I am going to put my sail guy on the alert for me to look for a sail that someone is about to throw away and see if I can rig somethingClint
I have a similar situation with my main mast furl unit. However, since we boat 12 months a year, the resulting noise is a wistle when the wind is blowing into the slot on the mast and around the opening. If you fabricate a sock for the mast and raise it up on a haylard you will reduce the wind and probable eliminte most of the rattle. Sounds like a lot of work for a minor irration.Bob
