Furling jib cover

I bought a used 23' boat with a Doyle furling jib. When I had this sail cleaned last Spring, the loft manager told me that what I supposed to be a sun resistant cover on the jib was a sacrificial piece which had no UV-resistant properties. He stated that it was degrading and would need to be replaced soon. Is a sun-resistant cover available as a retrofit, and is it recommended?

Sun Covers

Dale, In essence all UV sun covers are sacrificial. No cloth is imperviouos to UV so we use the ones that are most restistant. sunbrella covers will last 5-8 years depending on latitude and UV Dacron is about the same, slightly less in extreme UV down in the tropics. When these covers wear out it is fairly straightforward to remove and replace them. I would recommend having one put on your sail. Thanks, Bill Colombo Doyle Sails
