Furling genoa cover seems too small?

My understanding is that the foresail covers are made for boats with performance sails that aren't protected by a sun guard. Using as a winter cover might not be the best solution.. Driven rain will still get inside and stay..clingy wet snow, freezing rain and ice will all add weight aloft..

Why not drop the sail, inspect, repair and wash it it?
we'll just be taking this one down once we get into the more unlikely sailing weather. Not there yet, though
FWIW, this was yesterday.

Appears too small in diameter.

Sailrite (or any loft) can sew in a protective Sunbrella UV cover. They offer cleaning with a quasi re impregnation process. I have used this several times - it does help with older sails. May even be running their fall special right now.

Ok .. I've read all the responses . Here is what I would do . I would sew a seperate 2" wide strip with another zipper together . when I ordered my new genoa from here a year or so back ,I had the option of the sacrificial sun cover being blue or white. Perhaps there is a cover sewn into the sail and it's white you you don't realize it . Food for thought

I suspect @Qorgyle wants to avoid this

On winter nights when the weather looks like this
Capture Weather PDX.JPG

Those are winds speeds in Knots that are forecast to be in the Portland area on Friday NOV 4th.

The temps are not bad on this storm. Our winter storms can get much worse, adding "Frizzle", sleet and ice to the accompanying winds from the Columbia Gorge. These conditions occur when the Yukon High pressure sets up on the East side of the Cascades and the Canadians send their cold NW wind south in over Washington State, instead of just letting it flow out the Fraser Gap.

Oh well soon we all will understand you just cannot control the weather with our current skillsets. Maybe sometime in the future. Then everyday can be a great sailing day.
