I am getting ready to install a furler for the headsail. I have heard that if you put a 150% genoa, the roller won't furl properly. I was told that I should stay with a 135% genoa if going with a furler. I have a 23 foot boat, and thinking that all things proportional that I may have this problem. On the other hand, the sail size of this boat is not significant and I really do need the 150% performance when it counts. Any truth to this or should I stick to the 150%? Thanks!!

Furler

I used a 163% genoa on my furler and have never had a problem. I have a CDI furler and have only good things to say about it. Sean ~~~~_/)~~~~

IMHO

Depends on where you sail. I have a perfectly good 150 under the bed in my spare bedroom. With it, I was overpowered in 13kn of wind. I went to a 135 that, in my area, is better for a wider range of wind and a better overall for a cruiser. I can see under it, which was my biggest complaint with the 150. I can carry the 135 up to 16kn and it reefs nicely at 20kt. Never had a problem with the 150 fitting on the roller furlling. Don c27

sail shape

Its not so much that the sail won't furl properly, but that the sail shape is affected when you do have to furl. Most racers don't use a furler so its not an issue, but for cruising, what's the poiunt of having a 150% if its furled most of the time? You don't say much about the type of sailing you do or the weather you sail in, so its kind of hard to say what's best for you.
