furler line path..

I am having some issues with how I want to run my furler line.

I would like to run it outside the stancheons so as not to take up deck real estate.
Harken, Garhauer, and Schafer all have stancheon mounted blocks for doing this. the problem is that between the mid ship stancheons are those pesky shrouds. WHen you draw a straight line between the mid ship stancheons (where the furler line would go), it passes right through the shroud wires.

Makes me want to try to bump out the blocks that run the furler line further outboard.

Has anyone solved this problem?
thx,
gh

The stauncheon mounted blocks on my boat (for the furling line) only
project (?) a cm or two inboard - imo the Vega side-decks are plenty wide
enough for that not to matter.

I've had mine for 5 years and have not banged, bumped into or been caught
on them yet.And I've scuttled to the foredeck or mast in a hurry plenty of times...

Hi gh.

No they were fitted by previous owner but I'll have a look next time I go
out - maybe tomorrow after work, otherwise at the weekend.

Similarly, I've run a furling line through a few (~3) small blocks running
inboard for over a decade with no problems. There's a bit of friction in the
system, but there can't be too much as I'll be replacing the furling line
this season for the first time.

The blocks are very small (see the bottom row of
ts/ ), and are attached to the stanchion bases with a small shackle. This
system is strong enough to cope with panic reefing in a strong wind with the
line being fed through a winch.

I run my lines inside the stanchions, raised up above the deck. I use these "bulls eyes". The small amount of friction is not noticed.
Here is the hardware,

and a picture of where it's mounted:

By keeping the line well above the surface of the deck it's no longer a trip hazard.

Peter,
Oh, so you went 3D on me!
I wasn't thinking vertically.
What about the load up higher on the stancheons? Lever arm.

gh,
There's not enough deflection in the line to create a large load. Looking at a later picture, I realize that I've since slid the eyes down so they rest on top of the stanshion base, and are still off the deck and out of the way.
