Where does everyone mount the first fairlead/bullseye coming out of the furler? I've scoured the internet for pictures (which are surprisingly sparse for that part of the Mac), but I haven't found much. I saw one locating the fairlead right in the middle on the deck and one mounting the fairlead off to one side. Your thoughts?

The goal is to create a furling line angle that is at 90 degrees to the drum so it doesn't chafe or bind. It can be right in the middle of the deck (as i did) or off to the side. The exit angle is the critical part.

I purchased my CDI furler from BWY, and they provided installation instructions specifying where to install the bullseye fairleads, which I followed.

But sometimes I wonder if I should have just used furling leads attached to the stanchions, that way no holes in the deck.

You just want the furler line to come straight out of the drum in such a way it can't chafe, as Justin said.

Oh yeah. I used one bullseye at the furler then I used stanchion blocks to run the line back to the cockpit

I use a block attached to the bottom of the forward pulpit stanchion. It isn't a perfect shot, but as Doug said, no hole in the deck.

Thanks for the pics Doug. Looks like you did it off to the side. I think that makes sense. I'm going to mount one fairlead on the deck and then use Schaefer 78-53 stanchion mounted bullseyes to run the line back.

I tried the spinlock furling lead you attached above, but I couldn't get the angle right.

One other question Doug....I mounted the bail above the headstay hound like you did and my halyard line catches on the top cap of the furler when it spins. Does yours do that? I think I'm going to run both lines under the hounds instead of one over and one under.

Oh wait a minute. Assuming you have a CDI FF2, did you read the installation manual? If not and you don't have one here it is: http://www.sailcdi.com/sailpdf/FF2 manual 4.04.pdf

I run the unused jib halyard under the hounds, and I have another line (green) I use to hoist a mainsail sock.

Thanks again Doug. I do have the manual...I just bought the CDI new a few months ago. I saw your picture and thought you ran the lines one over and one under the hounds...I'll relocate mine to both under the hounds. That should solve my problem.
