When we furl our jib, we get what I call a “candy cane” spiral. Increasing tension or decrease on the jib sheets while furling doesn’t change the effect. Any ideas?

We might need some more information here. I assume you mean that when furled, the UV protection strip doesn't have the appearance of a solid color, but has a white spiral through it. Do you get the same effect when you furl with the sail to the port as well as starboard? I always seem to have an easier time, and cleaner furl when the genny is furled while partially filled and to the starboard side.

I occasionally get that

It helps for me to have a little more tension, especially when I start furling the genoa. Kind of a pain, and for my next genoa I may get the sunbrella a little wider.

I had the same thing happen to me. When I furled the sail , I didn't apply enough tension on the jib sheets to make a smaller diameter furled sail. Alittle extra tension solved my problem.
