Fun one - Lewmar 8 1975.

Hi All,

I have a Lewmar winch 8.
It is a single speed.
The boat is from 1975, so the winch is a super early model.

None of the videos, manuals, forums have any information I can use.
They all seem a gen higher.

If you have serviced a 1975 , Lewmar Winch 8.
Let me know if I can remove the Top cap. It might just be mine is just welded to the drum due to old age
but want to know before I go hammering it to death.

If you have the service manual, I'd be very grateful.

It’s very hard to tell but starting on page 3 of the link, it appears to look similar to yours. If not I would contact Lewmar UK directly.

Looking at the posted service manual, apparently the top cap can be removed after removal of a circlip (that you have already removed). I would use penetrating fluid, PB blaster, etc and let it soak for a few days, or immerse in mineral spirits or kerosene for a similar period. Then try to tap it out with a hammer & wooden dowel to prevent any damage.

Here is the manual, like Hello Below said, Lewmar were super helpful and quick.

Now, I'll wait for the penetrating fluid to arrive and give the part a soak.
