The bottle for the macerator containing the TDX fluid developed a leak on the bottom and we didn't realize it was leaking. The smell & fumes got stronger and stronger and upon looking for the source of the fumes, discovered the leak that released about a cup of it into the hull. We managed to clean it up and we discovered that it also removed some of the polyester paint from the area. So after cleaning it up, we painted it over to try to get rid of the smell. We didn't want to use baking soda as we didn't want to use salt in the area as there are a lot of electrical connections there that would possibly corrode from the sealed up environment. All the while we had to use respirator and goggles while cleaning and painting, and still haven't gotten rid of the smell or the fumes. It is under the v-berth and the fumes are deadly and burn our eyes and make breathing difficult. Is there anything we can do to get rid of the fumes? We would appreciate any thoughts or helpful advice.

We did call Sealand this afternoon. They recommended that we use white vinegar on the area to neutralize the fumes. They also said it would probablly work with the paint on it, but it would work better without the paint, so we will remove it first. They also stated that a little laundry soap mixed in with the vinegar will get rid of any blue stain residue.
