Hi,
Several people have commented on how much better their Vega goes with a
fully battened main. Do you feel this justifies the drawbacks, namely:
1/ More expensive
2/ More difficult to reef without coming into wind
3/ More difficult to depower when trying to slow down under sail (eg to
pick up a mooring)
4/ Would you recommend a fully battened main for extended cruising, or do
you feel there would be more problems with chafe / running repairs?

Re. the worm, if you think you may have it on your system - ie if you appear
to have been sending people stragne e-mails - see below for the info I have
been sending out to people who have kindly sent me a copy (dozens to date):
The virus is called W32badtransB@mm
It is usually attached to messages with no content and the subject Re:,
although it may also appear with a convincing heading, as it can extract
message headings form unread messages in your inbox.
It sends itself to everyone in your address book if it gets onto your
system, and also keeps a log of all your keystrokes, leaving your system
open via a backdoor to the person with the key. It is very important that
you take steps to remove it immediately.
Steps to take:
1/ Go to Symantec - Global Leader In Next-Generation Cyber Security | Symantec and follow the badtransB@mm link to
download the removal tool for this virus. I recommend downloading it to a
new floppy disk nad running it from there. Full instructions are available
on the site.
2/ Get or update your virus checker. [I recommend Norton Antivirus 2002].
It must be bang up to date - this virus was only 'discovered' Nov. 24th. You
need to run LiveUpdate regularly - every two weeks as a MINIMUM
3/ Run a full system scan as soon as you have installed/updated your
antivirus software.
4/ Never open attachments you weren't expecting. The virus is transmitted
in files with the extensions .scr or .pif, but other viruses may be
transmitted in .exe, .com, .bat or .vbs files, or even occasionally in Word
files with macros in them.
Best Regards,
Nick
