I purchased a 35.5 hunter and the cooking is fueled by CNG...this is going to be more of a day sailor for us and to be quite honest I don't know if we will be using that...anyway, theres a tank in place and the seller also gave me a full tank that's in my garage...I don't exactly like it there and am wondering what I should do with it....is there a demand for CNG or is there a place to recycle the gas?...thanks for any help...

Check with your dock neighbours if one of them would like it or place an ad in Craigslist.

I'd take it off your hands... let me see if I have any friends coming back through Minnesota anytime soon :)

Don's idea of Craigslist seems to be spot on. See if you can get a few bucks for a new boat toy.

CNG dissipates in the air. Just take the tank outside and open the valve slowly. There is indeed a high demand for GNG gas among boaters as it is very hard to find for filling portable tanks but there is also a dwindling number of users as many have become frustrated from lack of availability and switched to propane. If you find someone in your area that still uses CNG they might be thrilled not only to get the fuel but also a working tank. If you have limited cooking needs allow me to suggest a one or two burner Origo non-pressurized alcohol stove. denatured alcohol can be found rather inexpensively at any hardware store and its fume dissipate in the air. If you might only cook at dockside an electric cooktop might be all you need.

When boaters switch over from CNG to Propane do they continue to use the same tanks or do they end up with something like I have on my BBQ outside....thanks...whats the process to switching over...

cng is way safer on a boat then propane. if you go propane you have to construct a propane storage zone on the vessel. cng is hard to get refiled in many areas. so having a spare is what most do.

the tanks are different

I'm in Minneapolis and am in need of a CNG tank (full would be great). Do you still have it?

Crack the valve open so it vents slowly in a open area away from structures. CNG rises so be cautious about house eaves/bird blocking. You don't want it going into a confined space. Vent it slowly so the gas doesn't cool to much allowing it to rise immediately.
