Fuel weeping after bleeding

After bleeding the air from my fuel system during spring commissioning, I developed a small annoying weeping fuel leak somewhere near, or on, the engine mounted fuel filter of my Yanmar 2GM engine (puddles on top of the fuel filter). I have torqued down the bleed screw at the top of the filter and the inlet and outlet lines as much as I am willing to go in fear of doing damage to the threads. Seal washers are properly in place for the inlet and outlet lines. Still weeps (5-10 cc/hr). Does anyone know of a compatible sealant that can be applied to these connections? Thanks, Yesterday's Dream, 31' Hunter; 1985

weep no more

You are correct not to over torque the bleeder screw or you will strip it out. You need to replace the little plastic (or copper) bleeder washer and that should fix your problem.

Weeping fuel

I own a 1985 H34. After motoring down the ICW, my engine "space" was covered in a pink mist. After I returned, I went to my dealer and bought several fistfuls of 8,10, and 12mm copper crush washers. I replaced every washer except for injectors, and that fixed it.Check your parts manual for correct size and quantities, and pick a nice weekend. Don't use a gorilla grip on the wrench, and you'll be fine.

Washer should do it

I believe the direct replacement for my 2GM was a nylon washer. It fixed the problem for a while, but during the past 20 years, the threads on the housing were stripping. I replaced the whole filter housing for $39. I bought it from the link below. Oh yes, I wouldn't think of adding anything like teflon tape or stuff like that. If any gets in your fuel system and into your injectors, you will be in for a huge repair bill. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty

I'm crushed

Bob is right! Those little copper washers are called "crush" washers and should be replaced each time they are loosened. They're pretty cheap. I had the same problem with my GM3F, and that did the trick. Good luck!
