I have a Nissan 8hp outboard on my 260 with a 3 gallon tank. We plan to do some cruising this year and I want to install a larger tank. (We burn about a half gallon an hour when the winds are flat.) Has anyone else done this? I think the 6 gallon portables I see will fit in the locker or maybe I should just install an 11 gallon permanent tank and be done with it. 10/31/00 Installed a portable 6 gallon tank in our '94 Hunter 26. Just measured the well before I purchased the tank. Does the job and cuts the number of fuel runs significantly. Good sailing. Norm Steffen

Adding a permanent gas tank

I INSTALLED A PERMANENT BLACK PLASTIC 11 GALLON TANK AND HAVE BEEN VERY PLEASED WITH IT. THERE IS A PLACE JUST UNDER THE HELMSMAN'S SEAT WHERE YOU CAN INSTALL THE GAS FILL FITTING AND YOU CAN PUT A VENT OUT NEAR THE RUDDER POST. I ALSO ADDED A SHUTOFF VALVE ON TOP OF THE TANK AND AN ELECTRIC FUEL LEVEL GUAGE. WITH A FOUR STROKE 9.9 ENGINE, I DON'T HAVE TO FILL UP VERY OFTEN. HOPE THIS INFO IS USEFUL TO YOU.

To me, it depends...

I have a portable six gal. tank which seems to work fine (260), but then I don't have to mix fuel. To me, if you have to mix you might want a portable.

Cuttin' in line

I have the 6 gallon tank and have thought about installing the permanent 11 gallon. But I’ve had times when throwing the 6 gallon tank into the dinghy and slipping into a crowded fuel dock was real nice.

USA ANOTHER 3 GAL. RUN ON THE FIRST TILL YOU RUN IT DRY.THEN SWITCH TO THE SECOND. THIS WAY YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE FRESH GAS
