What is the largest gas tank that will fit into the fuel locker on the 26. My Johnson Sailmaster 8hp is a thirsty critter and the 3 gallon steel tank does not provide enough reserve. Of course I would rather leave it off and use wind power but some of the nicer spots to drop anchor around here are via very narrow channels which become congested parkways on weekends. Thanx.

I can't tell you what the largest fuel tank that fits is. However, I can tell you that my 6gal tank fits with plenty of room to spare. Best thing to do is measure the size of the compartment and then check your marine catalogs for a tank that fits. Peace

I used to have a C25 with an Evinrude Sailer (8hp). I purchased a 6 gal. poly tank and set it up with a coupling to match the Evinrude/Johnson (same thing). I always ran it off that. If I expected to need more, I kept a spare jerry jug of fuel in the dink.

Portable vs Permanent
Largest “portable” tank I could find was the 6.5 gallon. Think a larger permanent tank may fit. Another 2 gallon tank will fit down in front of the motor (when it not tipped up).

The previous owner of my boat had a 10 gal tank built in. The filler tube is just under the tiller and has a screw type marine cap. Works great.

9 Gallon Tempo
I have a 9 gallon tempo Tank with level gage. Unfortunately, WEST Marine no longer lists it in the 2000 catalog. It just barely fits in the well on my 26. Mike Pajewski H26 "Loon"
