Fuel Tank Sensor Issue

My fuel gauge has quit working. I bought a new one to install it in a different place, anyway, but it does not work, either. While troublshooting over the weekend, I found that with (an estimated) 90% full tank, I was getting 7.2 amps at the sensor. Any experiences with this from anyone? At this point, my guess is that I need a new sensor. Where do I find that for my 1982 H-27? Thanks to all that offer any type of thought. Jay Kent Seas The Sail H-27

Get a new sensor

Jay: If your gauge is like mine, there is a rheastst type arrangement that sends info to the readout. The faulty sender will still conduct electricity, but the rheastat (sp ?) portion won't work. Baffling when trying to troubleshoot

I have a new sensor on order now......

I really hate to think that this will not work out since the season is getting short before winter take out, and I really don't want this issue unsolved over the winter. Guess I'll see when the new sensor goes in (hopefully this weekend). Thanks for the response.
