The diesel fuel tank sender on my 2000 H340 seems to have bit the dust. It was working fine at the start of the season but has gone completely dead. I cleaned the wire contacts on the sending unit but still get no reading from the gauge (with the ignition on). When I short the sending wires, the gauge reads full so the problem has to be the sender. The sending unit does not have any brand name but looks to be a standard 5 bolt unit. The bolts look to be threaded into the 30 Gal. polypropylene tank and there is a gasket. Does anyone have any experienced advice for replacing, sealing and calibrating a replacement unit?

There really isn't a calibration procedure for fuel gages. Attached are two Teleflex PDF's on their product. The 240-33 ohm value gage is the most common one in use. The sender should be putting out a resistance reading somewhere inbetween these two values. Could be that the float has taken a dive and no longer works the lever arm to give a reading. Should be a simple replacement once you know the ohm value range of your gage.
