Fuel tank on my H34 is way down in the starboard locker along with my 3 batteries. I plan on draining the tank and cleaning it this winter and perhaps cutting an inspection hatch. Is there a water separator on this tank, and, if so, how the heck do you get at it?

Your primary fuel filter is your water separator. Depending on what you have you may want to consider adding something like a Racor.

If you have a poly tank be careful with cutting and inspection hatch, it may be difficult to seal.

No separator in the tank itself. And no baffles either. I did install a Seabuilt inspection plate on my original poly tank. And added a WEMA fuel gauge sender. Seabuilt does come with the gaskets (Unsure but I think it is butyl). I followed installation procedure recommended by Seabuiltv and have not had any leaking problems. http://www.seabuilt.com/compatibility.php

Dutchy,

The only water separation that occurs in the tank is because the pickup tube is slightly shorter than the tank height and water can accumulate below it. The primary filter catches that as it sucks up into the intake tube.

I relocated my Racor to the front of the engine compartment so I can keep a close watch on any water starting to accumulate and can drain it away. Maybe you still have the old Perko brass filter/separator way back in the back of the engine compartment? That was too hard to get to, hence the relocation. Same for the raw water strainer. Its up front now too.

Here is the link I posted earlier this year describing how I installed the cleanout port in my tank. It was pretty easy and the dual Buna gasket that comes with the kit doesn't leak.
