A bottom seam on the 22 gal. aluminum is leaking. In looking for a replacement I can't find a tank that has a fuel return connection. The original Mfg. of the tank (Florida Marine Tanks) says that the fuel return is not a requirement, but will will install one at the customers request. Question: what happens on a 2GM if there is no fuel return line? Also any suggestions on a replacement tank. Thanks. s/v MerEllis

You need the fuel return line. I think you may have had the wrong guy on the line, he might be great when it comes to welding, but his engine knowledge lacks a little.

repair instead of replace
Mine corroded thru in several places on the bottom..i pulled it and took it to a local welding shop...they cut the bottom out and welded in a new one...lots cheaper and kept the old hardware...caution it is a bear to get the dam thing in and out

I just replaced my tank in my Hunter 33...
I just replaced my tank in my 1982 Hunter 33. I found my tank had a slow leak. When draining the tank, I found the fuel to be in real bad condition even though I have used additives. The problem is that unless you motor for days and days non-stop, you will not use the fuel fast enough to keep it fresh. I decided to replace my tank with the plastic type sold by West Marine. You do have to have a return line and you must order a special adaptor for the tank that takes care of that. I installed a tank that has the same foot print size but much shorter.... a 11 or 12 gal. capacity. Took the opportunity to replace all lines, filters... completely new & clean system... Very Happy with it.

O, forgot to mention, I also installed a remote fuel gauge, electric.... made a switch panel box out of teak and mounted it over the nav station.. installed tow gauges in that box.. the fuel gauge and a hour meter that counts the number of hours the engine is running.. gives you a reference point for when to change oil, replace filters, etc. Good luck, and if you get a new tank, pay attention to the position of the filler neck as it must fall directly under the deck fuel fitting in the cockpit. I moved my over about 8 inches to match up to the new tank, but I was doing alot of other work anyway.
