Fuel tank removal

As some of you may know I am repowering my Vega with the BZ482. My
MD6A has been removed and I am in the process of cleaning the engine
compartment getting it ready for paint and new soundproofing. One
major project left is removing and cleaning the fuel tank. I have
some questions in this area and I would appreciate any help that you
could provide. 1. How do you pump out the old fuel? 2. Have any
of you replaced the old fuel lines and what did you use.

Hello David. I siphoned the fuel out. Assuming your boat is on land,
put the return fuel line through sink through hull fitting and
suck....yuch. The return line goes to th bottom of the tank.

Check out my web site to see how I took out the tank.

I am waiting till I get my Beta. There are really odd British
fittings on the tank.

Hi David

I have always used 6mm or 8mm rubber fuel hose. Works well and easy to use.

Use a syphon in the boat is on the hard or use a maual/electric pump.

Hi David--pumping out old fuel--cheap drill operated small pump available at hardware store. If you can access the tank thru a larger hole, then manually clean out with dry cloths and make sure you get down into the corners and edges where built-up crud can lay. A plastic scraper if it is a glass tank or a ss scraper if it is stainless. Fuel lines, I would use copper 3/8", bend to suit and flex loops where there may be vibrations--use the least joints possible and new fittings--they are not expensive. If you have a small fire or hot metal, copper will be the best. A clean plastic scrub pad can also be used in the tank to remove any solids built up--be careful if the tank is lined with a finish. Make sure you do a very good final inspection with a safety lamp. jorgen
