Any one experienced perforation of the aluminum fuel tank on a '88 Hunter 30'? My tank was weeping out an egg cup of diesel every day from the underside of the tank end seam. Have removed the tank from its aft cockpit locker and will be repairing/replacing it shortly. It was made by Aluminum Fabrication Products, Florida from .090 gauge alum. with a certified approved rating plate on the tank. Any advice/words of wisdom appreciated.

I'd replace it.

Frank: I would replace it with a Poly tank. You need to find a source for poly tanks that are specific to fuel. They are made from a crosslinked poly material.

leaky fuel tank

I had a similar situation occur in a 20 gallon power boat aluminum tank about 3 years ago. I pulled the tank (big job in itself) and sanded the entire tank down. I then soaped the outside to find any of the leaks (only one). I used a vac. cleaner in reverse to add a little pressure to find the soap bubbles coming from the leak. Washed the entire tank down. Sanded leak area and purchased gas tank repair compound from a local auto parts store. I repaired the leak with the compound and then painted the tank. No leaks for the past three years. I also top off my tanks during the winter months.
