Fuel tank leak

I have a slow leak in my diesel fuel tank and wonder if anyone has ever removed a fuel tank from a 1990 Hunter 30 where the tank is located directly below the walk-thru transom step. My floorplan shows that the fuel tank is supposed to be just aft of the aft cabin(berth), however, that is where my waste holding tank is situated. To make matters worse, the rudder shaft is fiberglassed in to the bulkhead that I am told (by Hunter) I would need to cut through to access the fuel tank. Any other suggestions? Experience? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Been there on my H-33 1982 model

My tank also leaked and I found it when doing other work on the cockpit floor from underneath. In my case, the tank could be removed thur the cockpit locker. I emptied the tank completely before starting and pulled the tank after cutting off the filler spout that prevented the locker opening from being large enough. I then found a replacement tank that was somewhat smaller. I just did not need 30 gallons of fuel. Went back with a plastic tank that holds about 12 gallons. I also had to relocate the deck fitting since it did not line up with the new tank. Its either a easy job or a tough one, sounds like maybe you should get some estimates from professionals and listen to what they say about what they will have to do to get the old one out and the new one in. Then decide whether or not you can do the work yourself. Good luck.
