After cleaning my tank through the gauge access I striped out some of the screws. Can I just use a larger screw or seal the gauge with caulking of some kind?

Head stool change.
I bought a new stool for the head and will be replacing it with all the hoses soon. My question is the stool has a different foot print, and will need to drill additional holes. Is there a steel backing plate in the fiberglass or will I need to tap for new treads or is it just fiberglass?

You should be fine with that solution John. The gauge doesn't hold the tank in place or anything. Just be sure to use a sealant that is rated for fuel.
