My tank indicator is not working. It registers correctly for waste and water but fuel shows full all the time. Open for any suggestions on how to fix. Thanks.

You have to diagnose the problem.

Check the basics first, like a fuse, electrical connectors, switches, wiring and ground connection. Check voltage down to the sending unit. You may have to remove the sensor from the tank and bench test it, also check the float arm. The electrical resitance from the sending pump should range between 240-33 Ohms. If the sensor is working properly and the gauge does not move then it is probably the gauge. When removing sending unit from tank always replace the gasket. Depending on the location of your tank, it may be easier said than done. Chances are the problem is a loose or corroded connection. Good luck.

Much Thanks

Benny Thanks for mapping out the process. I have nothing to do this weekend so I will begin.

Hope I am not out of my league here, but...

...I have a similar problem possibly with my new/used 03 Hunter 306. Rasselas, I see you have a 03 Hunter 36...don't know what type/year Hunter Benny has, but if you have the same three tank indicating system - Acu-gage, by Snake River Electronics - that I have in my 306, there is no float and such troubleshooting for resistance since there is no sending unit in the tank is not appropriate. I think the sensors for the three tanks - waste, water, and diesel are strips on the outside of the tanks. There is a 3-4 page manual in my Hunter book on this system...though I haven't done the troubleshooting to see why, after my first day of my ferry trip from the dealer to my home port, I saw no decrease after about 8 hours of motoring my Yanmar 2GM20F. Of course, I was told the tank was topped off on boat delivery...and I only put less than 5 gallons after the 8 hours. The second day I motored and motor-sailed for about 13 hours - last week...and I haven't topped off yet...shows an actual one tick mark decrease now over full tank...so perhaps it's actually a calibration issue for me. Anyway, I just wanted to point you in the right direction if you have an Acu-gage system...suggest you search in archives on Snake River or Acu-gage...lots of hits and perhaps our betters have already written comments that could help you. Link at snake-river.org also has all the updated information if that is your system. V/r, Dennis

Welcome to the club

Mine does have a fuel rod for a sensor. It must be malfunctioning. I've been in contact with the company but have not been able to prove its the sensor. So I've been reluctant to replace it.

You Saved Me

Dennis You have saved me. I have the identical system you described. However, a book did not accompany my boat when I purchased it. I did follow up on searching the web and blogs for this make and model of tank indicator. I ran my tank down to a few gals left and did the calibration and it still indicated the tank was one tick from full. How did I determine I only had a few gals left in the tank--it took 25 gals to top it off. I will let you know when I have a fix. PS. The local Hunter dealer charges a minimum of $75 and $75 an hour after. Perry (Rasselas)
