I Have A 29.5 , 1996 Model, Would Like Some Info On How To Bleed Air Out Of The Fuel System. I Managed To Strip Out The Bleed Screw On Top Of The Fuel Filter Housing And I Am Going To Try To Tap It Out (Not In Place Of Course). Would Appreciate Advice On How To Bleed The System After Re-Assembly, Are There Other Bleed Screws That I Need To Be Aware Of. I Have Heard That The Engine Will Run Rough Or Not At All If THere Is Air In The System Thanks Wayne Waguespack (TUTT)

Bleeding

You did not mention what kind of engine. I assume a Yanmar 2 or 3gm series. There is a lever on the primary feed pump (the pump that feeds the injector pump) that is on the heat exchanger side of the engine and down low. After opening up the bleed screw on the filter you pump the lever up and down until you get no air bubbles, only fuel. you first need to make sure your water separater fuel filter (if installed) has been topped off with fuel prior to re-installing after filter change. Other wise you won't even get fuel to your primary feed pump. Good lesson for everyone here....the bleed screw on top of filter is hollow and made of aluminum. It is extremely easy to strip it. Just snug it up and keep an eye on it. Doug

Just did it last weekend

I just changed both separator and fuel filter. You have two bleeder screws on the fuel filter, one on the input and one on the out put side. Before I tightened the bleeder screws I had to actually pore fuel into the input bleeder hole until it came out the other bleeder hole to get enough fuel to prime the fuel pump. Before I did this, the pump would not pump fuel. Next I had to loosen the fitting on the injector and turn the engine over until I had fuel coming out of the fitting then I tightened them.. I had to do all the above to get my engine to run at all. Most of what I did was right out of the Yanmar manual. Good Luck Russ

Replace the housing.

Wayne: You should contact Torressen and see what a replacement cost. There was a thread on this site several weeks ago and they were not very expensive as I remember. Retapping is probably not going to work.

Keep the old housing

I stripped the same screw. I dried the area, removed the screw and gooped the stripped hole with MarineTex and put it back together - JUST TO GET HOME! Worked fine, except the screw is no longer removable. The new housing came complete with a filter already installed. We kept the gooped one for a spare. Good luck from s/v Endless Summer

I bought a new housing

I cantacted Torressen and was quoted a price of about $39 for the housing, LESS the filter. The woman on the phone went to the stock room and opened a new housing for me to confirm that the filter is not included. I now have the new Yanmar housing and filter that I ordered. Will probably wait until spring to install it. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty
