There is a chrome push/pull switch above the preheat and start buttons on my Captains control panel that is labeled stop. Is this for an electric fuel solenoid or is it labeled improperly and serves another purpose? What purpose? The boat is new to me so i am still trying to figure everything out before the season begins.

More than likely that is a mechanical shutoff. pull out shut off, push in to open.

Thanks Doug, I should have mentioned there is a mechanical shut off beside my Captains panel.

I try to remember to push it back in,after you have pulled it to shut engine off. A couple of times I have left it out cranking the engine and wondering why it didn't start. However mine is on the far side of the pedestal and you have to look .

Do you have an electric fuel solenoid as well as a mechanical fuel shut off.
No electric fuel shut off , every boat I've had or been on has the same mechanical shutoff. Start your engine turn key off motor will most likely keep going. On my boat ,Beneteau installed a secondary mechanical shutoff in the rear aft cabin ,small pull handle I guess in case other fails or jams ,shuts fuel tank off

Today I put the key in the ignition and operated the switch. The engine room exhaust blower promptly started. Mystery solved. I will label it properly. Thanks to all that tried to help.

How do you normally shut down the engine ? With a button or via this knob ? Emergency fuel shut off is required. Those I have seen operate a small valve handle at the fuel tank connection. I tested mine and found it took 15 minutes for the fuel in the fuel system to be consumed and shut down the engine so, in event of engine room fire this isn't very effective. With engine off, gain access to your engine so you can see all parts and have some one pull the knob out/push in several times so you can see/find what it is doing. MW/SAMS AMS (First 42 Owner)

The engine shuts down by pulling the red handle in the cockpit beside my control panel. There is no fuel solenoid. The button strictly operates the engine room exhaust blower. I too have the emergency shut down handle. It is good to know that a lot of fuel is available after operating the emergency handle. I will exercise this shut off soon. Thanks

My 323 has a T handle shutoff in the instrument panel. When it is pulled out, the engine stops almost immediately. There is a second T handle shutoff below in the aft cabin immediately adjacent to the battery switches (closer to the fuel tank).

With a diesel either the fuel has to be cut off or the source of combustion air, otherwise the thing won’t stop.

Hhmmm.... my 2006 B323 w/3YM20 does not have a cockpit pull, just a rubber "STOP" button. I have the aft pull/stop handle, though. I have the "B" Yanmar panel in the cockpit.
