Is a fuel shutoff required with a diesel, I know is probably a good idea, but I am not sure if its required equipment. The surveyor is coming in the morning, and I don't want to go scouring the countryside for one tonight.

Throttle shut-off?

My H37C's fuel shut-off is the throttle. Not the best of ideas but the way the boat was delivered. In other words when you pull the throttle all the way back the engine stops. And yes, you really have to be careful when docking! My surveyor never mentioned it. But that doesn't mean it should not be changed.

Short answer

Yes, it is recomended by A.B.Y.C. it should be located at the tank outlet. If you add one to the intake side of your Racor it makes filter changes EASY. Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, Ga imd_ga@hotmail.com

Hey Ed

Don't you have an inline manual valve in the line where it runs along the port side of the engine compartment. I found mine when I took off the quarterberth access door and saw it in the fuel line running at the level of the berth just inside the access door. I went looking for it the first time I changed the fuel filters.

Sorry, misunderstood.

I do that a lot since I turned 60. I thought the query was regarding the stopping of the engine. Yes, there is a shutoff valve right where the fuel line connects to the tank on the H37C.
