My boat does not have the original fuel pump. The prior owner must have replaced it as the current one is a NAPA brand electronic pump. The engine is a M25XP on a 1992 C30 and I am experiencing a slight diesel leak when running the engine...it seems to be coming out of a "seam" of the pump and not at the pump fittings or hose connection. This is a slight leak...maybe a drop or two of diesel every 10 minutes and is coming from the "discharge side" of the pump. Problem is that diesel smells up the salon. Has anyone experienced something like this? Should I replace the pump and if so, would you go with the Universal or another NAPA...big cost difference and evidently neither brand has worked out perfect.

Sounds like the leak may be on a seam in the plastic housing of the pump. You could either Marine Tex it and hope it stops, or simply get another pump. $15 for a small Marine Tex package, vs. $30 for a new Napa pump is only a $15 difference. I haven't heard about leaking Napa pumps since we found out about them, see the link. "...big cost difference and evidently neither brand has worked out perfect." I understand the $ difference, but don't understand the part about "neither brand." The old metal ones worked just fine. Our first (metal) one lasted 18 years. I replaced it with the metal one the PO had left me two years ago and am looking forward to 16 more years with that one, and also purchased a plastic Napa one for a backup. "evidently" may not be appropriate here, unless I've been missing something. Would love to learn more. Stu, ...just what I was looking for. The "evidently..." comment was my assumption that the original universal did not work well as the prior owner had allready replaced it. I know what they say about "assuming"...and I'm probably the ass. My current NAPA fuel pump is a small square shape that has "88 Facet" as the only marking on it. It must be the predecessor to the pump your link mentions. Definately worth buying a new one if its only $35. Thanks for the GREAT information.

I also have the Facet fuel pump on my Newport and it's been working fine. But ther will come a time for it to be replaced, on my old computer before it crashed I had the site for these pumps, unfortinatly all is now lost. So would you please post the site address again.

Constant pressure vs constant volume
If you buy a new pump get a constant pressure one. It will bring the system up to pressure and then shut off like your fresh water pump. A constant volume pump will keep trying to pump until the electrical power turns off. Auto parts stores may or may not know the difference and just sell you a fuel pump.

Stu, I went to the NAPA store and got the newer model Facet pump that was in your link. Total cost about $50 for pump, fuse holder and fuses. Installed it yesterday, ran the engine for 20 minutes and no fuel pump leak! Thanks for the help.
